The Lewes Fire Department elected Robbie Stephens as fire chief during an election Aug. 4.
Stephens, who had served as interim fire chief following the resignation of former Chief William Buckaloo, has been a member of the department for 18 years, holding the positions of lieutenant, captain, training officer, assistant chief and deputy chief. Stephens works for the Wilmington Fire Department as a firefighter on Squad 4.
Buckaloo resigned in July after the department said he made a derogatory comment in a public setting. Glenn Marshall, spokesman for the Lewes Fire Department, said the department continues to investigate the incident.
