Stockley team thanks Cape Henlopen Elks for holiday visit and gifts

The Stockley Center staff and residents hold a special place in the heart of Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge 2540 members.
The Stockley Center in Georgetown is a Medicaid-certified care facility for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The 50-bed facility provides both intermediate and skilled nursing care for people requiring a variety of complex supports to meet their medical needs.
In December, members of Elks Lodge 2540 near Lewes organized an angel tree project to purchase and deliver gifts requested by Stockley Center residents.
The Elks were thrilled to have a personal visit from Stockley resident Marlene Floyd and staff members Feb. 7. They came to thank the Elks personally for their kind efforts and further enhance the relationship between members of both organizations.
Leanne Mireider, a therapist, spoke for the group and said they were blown away by the generosity of the Elks and wanted to express their appreciation. Each and every gift wish was granted, including a variety of hand puppets and 17 MP3 players for residents to engage in creative play, and enjoy music and audiobooks.
Led by Elk Barb Gilsenan, members are encouraged to join a group to regularly visit with the Stockley Center residents and host them as they visit the lodge more often. It is a source of great pride for the Elks to support a greater connection with all members of the community; part of its motto says, Elks Care – Elks Share.
