Stop whining about Old Landing Road intersection

May 16, 2023

We are residents on Warrington Road. We built our home in 1996. I remember the coalition in 1998-99. I also remember the outcome. DelDOT was set to put a light in way back then, but the residents of Old Landing Road fought it because they were living in the country (lol). DelDOT did not inform anyone of the impending storm that was coming. Here we are 20-plus years later and everyone is still arguing about the same intersection. The statement that it’s only beachgoers that are in a hurry is ridiculous. It's not beachgoers that have raced down the side of the shoulder to get back home, taking down our mailbox 14 times in the past 20 years. These are residents who live on Old Landing Road. The residents are the ones who will take the shoulder with aggression in complete disregard of the dangerous nature in driving fast on a shoulder. Do you think anyone would stop and apologize for destroying our property?

Just to name a few, I remember the accident that turned a young man into a paraplegic. He was broadsided through the split-rail fence at the corner house’s yard in Breezewood. There was the little old lady who succumbed to her injuries after being involved in an accident in front of our house due to a backup on Warrington Road. Finally, our son was also involved in an accident that resulted in back issues when he was just a teenager.

Really, it's not about the intersection; it's about getting traffic not to bottleneck. The four-way stop causes backups on Warrington Road, Plantation Road, delays Route 24 right-hand turns onto Warrington, resulting in congestion on all feeder roads in this immediate area. Get your heads out of your butts ... it's not just about you. It's about everyone who has moved here; it's about the flow of traffic everywhere. Every single road, intersection, stop sign, traffic calmer, speed limit and aggressive driver causes a reaction on another roadway. Let DelDOT do its job. It may take time and cause some pain, but what's the alternative? Builders are not going to stop building and retirees are not going to stop moving here, so get over yourselves and deal with it. I've been here all my life – 25 years as a part timer and full time for the last 34 years. I love where I live. Quit whining. You moved here because ...
