A strong southerly wind may have been producing whitecaps on Rehoboth Bay, but that didn’t deter more than a dozen competitors in the fourth annual East of Maui SUP Sprint Challenge at North beach in Dewey.
Daniel Rapp won the 2-mile race, the first two-thirds of which was into the wind, in a time of 19:59. Wayne Best finished second with a time of 20:13. Sean Thomas finished third with a time of 21:03. Julia Calvert won the 1-mile youth competition in 26 minutes flat.
The Aug. 18 event was the kickoff for the second weekend of Alley Oop’s annual Summer Vibes Fest. The Rehoboth Am Skate Jam at Epworth Skate Park took place Aug. 19.
