Students may apply to Delaware Farm Bureau for FFA Blue Jacket Bonanza by Feb. 5

Program allows Delaware high school students to earn their own blue jacket
January 29, 2016

For the third year in a row, the Delaware Farm Bureau will participate in the National FFA Organization’s Blue Jacket Bonanza Program. The program was started in 2010 by the Santa Barbara County Farm Bureau in California to provide deserving students the opportunity to earn a jacket of their own. Since then, many county and state farm bureaus, including Delaware, have joined the ranks of the Blue Jacket Bonanza.

To be eligible for a blue jacket, applicants are required to log at least 10 hours of community service, and in less than 500 words describe their career goals, higher education plans and what the blue jacket means to them. Applicants who demonstrate financial need will take precedence. To apply by Friday, Feb. 5, go to www.defb.org.

Last year the Delaware Farm Bureau went above and beyond to ensure students received their blue jackets. The program outlined the purchase of 50 jackets, but when 66 applications rolled in, the DFB Board of Directors voted to use additional funds to purchase the extra 16 jackets. Farm Bureau has allocated funds for 50 blue jackets in 2016. For more information, go to defb.org or call 302-697-3183.

Delaware Farm Bureau’s Women’s Committee also offers scholarships to high school seniors. This year’s scholarship deadline is Friday, April 15. For more information, contact Jan Cartanza at 302-697-3183 or go to defb.org and click on Women’s Committee.
