Students visit DSP Troop 7 for hands-on learning experience

April 6, 2026

Students from H.O. Brittingham and Lewes elementary schools group recently visited Delaware State Police Troop 7, where they were welcomed for a day of learning, connection and fun.

Members of the HOB Guys with Ties program, the Focus Classroom, and the Lewes Gents club from LES visited Troop 7 and were greeted by Sr. Cpl. Patrick Jackson, along with other officers. During the visit, students heard a powerful and engaging presentation from Jackson, who shared insight into what it takes to become a state trooper, the many ways officers serve and protect the community, and the tools they use in their daily work.

In addition to the support from Delaware State Police Troop 7, the visit was further strengthened by the presence of the school constables, who play an important role in maintaining safe and supportive school environments each day. Their participation helped reinforce the strong connections between students and the adults who work to keep them safe both in and out of school. During the visit, the constables helped build trust, foster positive relationships and demonstrate the shared commitment to student safety across the school community.

Students were highly engaged throughout the experience, gaining a deeper understanding of law enforcement while building positive relationships with local officers. The visit also included time for students to connect in a more relaxed setting, enjoying pizza and a friendly game of kickball with Troop 7 members.

“This experience provided our students with a meaningful opportunity to learn firsthand about the important role law enforcement plays in keeping our communities safe,” said Yvette Davenport, H.O. Brittingham Elementary principal. “We are incredibly grateful to Troop 7 for welcoming our students and creating such a positive and engaging environment.”

Dr. Kimberly Corbidge, Lewes Elementary School principal, said, “Opportunities like this help students make real-world connections and see the many ways they can contribute to their communities in the future. Our students truly enjoyed the experience and walked away inspired.”
