SummerScape outdoor events begin June 11 at Lewes library

May 22, 2025

The Lewes Public Library will kick off SummerScape 2025, a live performance series celebrating performing arts, history, literature and science in its new outdoor pavilion.

Kicking off the season will be String Splendor: Haydn and Dvořák, from internationally acclaimed chamber musicians Serafin Ensemble, at 7 p.m., Wednesday, June 11, at 111 Adams Ave., Lewes.

Presented by the library’s Spoken Word Society under the leadership of Volunteer Artistic Director David White, the series continues with presentations of Bach and Beyond at 7 p.m., Wednesday, June 18, and Czech This! at 7 p.m., Wednesday, June 25.

Additional offerings will include a musical production of “Twelfth Night” from Delaware Shakespeare; presentations by Historic Lewes, Harriet Tubman Museum & Educational Center, and Delaware Center for the Inland Bays; a performance by First State Ballet; and scientific talks on marine science and artificial intelligence.

Events will be held Wednesday evenings throughout the summer, and the series will culminate with weekend performances by renowned actors Suzanne Savoy and Gerald Dickens Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 13 and 14.

Chairs will be provided under the covered area of the pavilion; registration is required for covered seating. Guests are also welcome to bring their own chairs or blankets to the lawn surrounding the pavilion, which does not require registration. Should events move indoors due to inclement weather, only those who have preregistered can be accommodated. To view the full schedule and to register, go to tinyurl.com/SummerScape25.
