SUN Behavioral Delaware hospital to open Oct. 1 in Georgetown

Mental health and addiction treatment services to be provided

In October 2018, SUN Behavioral Delaware will open its doors to begin providing mental health and substance use disorder treatment services. The hospital will offer comprehensive inpatient treatment, partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient services to children, adolescents, adults and seniors. 

An open house will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Monday, Oct. 1, at the hospital for anyone interested in attending. The open house will include a ribbon cutting from the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce as well as guided tours of the hospital.

Amy Wood, the new CEO of Sun Behavioral Delaware, has more than 28 years of experience in senior leadership and expertise in mental health and substance use disorder treatment programs. She has worked in the development of new psychiatric hospitals as well as the startup of partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs. Wood will continue her steadfast commitment to total patient care across the continuum of services to promote health and wellness to those who need it the most. For the past several months, Wood has been actively working to introduce Sun Behavioral to community leaders and learn about the needs of the citizens of Delaware.

Jose R. Capiro, MD, has joined as executive medical director for Sun Behavioral Delaware. Capiro received his undergraduate degree in chemistry from the University of South Florida in Tampa, and his doctor of medicine degree from Universidad CETEC, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, with his training in general psychiatry from the Division of Health & Social Services Medical Center of Delaware. He is board certified in general psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology.

Sun Behavioral Delaware has established a strong clinical staff of talented and compassionate individuals including nurse practitioners, psychiatrists, licensed therapists, chemical dependency counselors, certified expressive/activity therapists, RNs, and allied mental health providers.

Sun Behavioral Delaware is a 90-bed, newly constructed mental health and substance use disorder hospital dedicated to a compassionate and results-driven approach while treating those struggling with emotional and mental health issues, addiction, and the unique mental health and addiction challenges faced by seniors.
