Oct. 1 for the 53rd Salisbury University High School Tidewater Classic.
Seahawks senior Ryan Moody set a personal record of 15:56 and won the boys race while his brother, sophomore Benjamin Moody, took eighth-place overall at 17:09 to give Sussex Academy two in the top ten and enough points to claim third place overall. Smyrna was the only other Delaware school to finish above them and the Seahawks were the top Division II team in the boys race.
Sussex Academy senior Will Parker’s 18th place crossing at 17:46 put three Seahawks in the top 20 while seniors Aiden Zook and Rocco Buonopane 19:14 and 19:20, respectively made sure there were five Sussex Academy runners in the top 100.
On the girls side Northwest High School from Germantown dominated, but Sussex Academy put five girls in the top 50. Riley Moriarty (12th), Jordan Blades (22nd), Katya Geyer (24) Teagan Forester (35) and Jaslene Brunskill (48th) powered the girls to fourth place. Like the boys they were the top Division II school and bested only by Smyrna in Delaware.
Cape split up their squads for the Oct. 1 Tidwewater Classic and Oct. 2 Paul Short run at Lehigh University, sending the younger runners to Salisbury. Both boys and girls proved their is plenty of hope for the future of running at Cape.
Setting personal records were freshman Jude Bastian (17:58), sophomore Ethan Thompson (18:25), freshman Caleb Olmsted (18:37), freshman Owen Barron (18:37) Donovan Hanwell (20:21), freshman Parker Matthews (20:53) and sophomore Beau Krick (21:22). The greenhorns helped the Vikings grab sixth-place overall.
Freshmen Lexi Bryson (24:03), Elena Kucharik (25:50) and Marisa Golan (27:01) were joined by junior Zoe Hennessey (25:40) and sophomore Bella Luna-Castellanos (28:31) in the best runs of their careers for the girls.
Delmarva Christian senior Isabella Stubbs 23:36 was the low marks for the girls on the Royals and Wyatt Baker’s 21:06 edged out Cole Parker’s 21:10 to lead the boys.
