May 22, 2025

Sussex Academy held its annual college decision day May 1, allowing each senior to declare their future plans in a special ceremony in the cafeteria.

Esteban Lara Nieto,  Josue Lauroe, Andres Romero-Nieto, CJ Norton, Dymond Steele and Whitman Stoudt signed their letter of intent to become student-athletes in college.

Lara Nieto will continue his soccer career in Ohio at Wittenburg Univeristy, while teammate Romero-Nieto will stick close to home and play for Goldey-Beacom College, where he will link up with Cape star Cardin Benjamin. Lara Nieto and Romero-Nieto’s keeper Norton will be headed slightly farther away, but will still be close at Rowan University in New Jersey.

Lauroe is slated to continue his cross country career at Haverford College.

Steele is headed to Virginia to play volleyball for Emory and Henry University after the school noticed the senior’s skill set shine despite an injury her final season.

Stoudt, who ran cross country and played baseball, is headed to Washington College, where he will be a member of the crew team.

The athletes signed their letters with friends and family by their side and their fellow classmates watching in the audience.
