Sussex Academy boys’ soccer gets state championship rings

For the second year in a row, Sussex Academy boys’ soccer players received their state championship rings. This time, the ceremony took place at halftime of the girls’ 1-1 draw against Caravel Academy, the girls’ defending champions.
“We all know the effort we put in and I'm very proud of the team and everything we accomplished,” senior Andres Romero-Nieto said. “It was nice to receive this ring, which was like a recap of everything we did for the past two years, so I think it was a really good moment.”
His feelings were echoed by fellow captain Esteban Lara Nieto.
“Coach RJ [Dina] really taught us how to come through despite our injuries, and with some players down,” Lara Nieto said. “Getting this ring was really great to finally solidify our victory.”
Aaron Mushrush joined the sports team in Summer 2023 to help cover the emerging youth athletics scene in the Cape Region.
