Sussex Academy elementary-grade students participated in a variety of enrichment activities during literacy night March 12.
Students and families were able to move to various activity stations throughout the gym, where they could play games and make crafts geared toward increasing literacy proficiency,
In addition to teachers who hosted stations and assisted students, school leaders Jerica Morris and Megan Reed hosted an informational table for parents, offering resources about the school curriculum and ways to help with literacy at home.
Guests included local authors Aimee Isaacs, Lyn McDonald and Rosemary Carroll as well as representatives from the Georgetown Public Library and the Sussex County Director of Libraries (Bookmobile).
“Our literacy night truly brought our new elementary curriculum to life while connecting with state goals and giving families meaningful ways to be part of their child’s reading journey,” said Kyle Bentley, head of school.
Sussex Academy is a tuition-free, public charter K-12 school in Georgetown.
