Sussex Academy sets school choice open house Nov. 9

November 4, 2022

Delaware parents and students interested in exploring school options for the 2023-24 school year are invited to attend Sussex Academy’s school choice open house programs at both the elementary and secondary campuses, from 5:30 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 9.

For students in kindergarten through fifth grade, the elementary campus is located at 22051 Wilson Road, Georgetown. The secondary campus for students in sixth to 12th grades is at 21150 Airport Road, Georgetown.

During this time, prospective families can meet school deans and educators to learn about curriculum and programs. Each campus will hold general information sessions in addition to academic, club and athletic showcases, and families will have the opportunity to tour the school campuses.

The general information session at the elementary campus will take place at 7 p.m., and two general information sessions will take place at 6:30 and 7:30 p.m., at the secondary campus.

In Delaware, school choice is the process of allowing every family to select the K-12 educational options that best fit their children. A parent/legal guardian residing in Delaware may apply to enroll their child in any public school, charter school, magnet school or vocational-technical school, regardless of the student’s area of residence. The school choice enrollment application period opens Monday, Nov. 7, and closes Wednesday, Jan. 22. Districts/schools will notify applicants of their invitation status by Tuesday, Feb. 28. Applicants have until Friday, March 17, to make a decision.

The mission of Sussex Academy is to foster academic achievement and social responsibility in a small school environment. Students participate in a highly accelerated college preparatory program that prepares them for the technological and global mindedness needed for the 21st century, and that instills ethical conduct and service to others in their day-to-day lives.
