Sussex Alliance for Responsible Growth to be honored Oct. 23

September 28, 2019

The Inland Bays Foundation will present its 2019 Environmental Advocacy Award to the Sussex Alliance for Responsible Growth at its annual Love Our Bays dinner set for 6 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 23, at Irish Eyes Restaurant in Lewes.

The dinner celebrates the importance of the bays, and those who work to restore them to swimmable and fishable condition.

SARG will receive the award for its leadership in providing citizen input in the extensive 2018 Sussex County Comprehensive Plan process, and for its continued work to see the plan’s objectives and strategies incorporated in the county’s decision-making.

Also to be showcased at the dinner is the Citizens Guide to Environmental Advocacy, the first project funded by the Austin-Moyers Citizens Advocacy Program. Established as a memorial to Inland Bays Foundation founding members John Austin and Bill Moyer, the program continues their legacy of fighting for better water quality in the bays. The guide was developed by the Delaware Law School Environmental Law Clinic and its director, professor Ken Kristl.

Foundation President Frances Hart said, "The purpose of the guide is to give citizens a background in state and federal environmental laws, and show how to be an effective advocate."
