For officials with Sussex Conservation District in Georgetown, Nov. 9 was something like Black Friday, as a native tree giveaway saw lines queued up more than hour in advance and the tree stock be out within 15 minutes.
The district office gave away 200 trees as part of the statewide Tree For Every Delawarean Initiative, a program started by Gov. John Carney’s administration to help combat climate change. The trees available were all native to Delaware, including bald cypress, river birch, serviceberry and sweetbay magnolia.
