Sussex Consortium educators prioritize wellness

November 9, 2025

In a powerful show of community and commitment to wellness, a group of Sussex Consortium educators from across the Cape Henlopen School District have teamed up and are prioritizing their physical and mental health. The group participates together in weekly fitness sessions at Sea Barre Fitness in Lewes. Teachers not only participate in high-energy spin and barre classes but also are stepping up to lead classes.

During class, teachers have the opportunity to unwind, get moving and connect with one another outside the classroom. With both barre and spin on the schedule, participants benefit from a full-body workout that builds strength, boosts cardiovascular endurance and supports mental clarity.

“It’s inspiring to see our teachers leading by example, not just in the classroom, but in wellness as well,” said Dr. Audrey Dempsey, Cape district supervisor of elementary education and early learning. “This initiative is about more than just fitness, it’s about building a supportive, healthy community so that our staff can feel their best both inside and outside of their schools.”
