Sussex Family YMCA in Rehoboth gets pool makeover

October 22, 2019

Members of the Sussex Family YMCA are enjoying an indoor pool with a brand-new look.

After 30 years of use by swimmers of all ages, the pool recently opened after major renovations including new pool deck tiles, gutters, side windows and a new door.

“We are so excited to have the pool reopen, and it looks beautiful. These renovations were so needed and long overdue,” said Tamisha Hopkins, branch executive director. “Our pool is an integral part of our Y and the Sussex community. It affords us to provide free safety around water lessons designed to get non-swimmers used to being in the water while teaching them how to stay safe.”

The YMCA of Delaware is committed to saving lives and educating the community about safety around water. Every year, people young and old drown in swimming pools, lakes, and oceans. In 2019 alone, the Sussex Family YMCA provided nearly 1,000 free water acclimation sessions designed to prevent childhood drowning. In addition to swim lessons, the Sussex Family YMCA pool hosts thousands of swimmers participating in swim team, water exercise classes, lap swimming, recreational swim and more.

“We especially want to thank our loyal members for their patience. Please come visit us, and see all of the new and exciting upgrades we have done. It’s a whole new Y,” Hopkins said.
