October 11, 2019

Hundreds of fifth graders and members of the public attended the 20th annual Sussex County 911 Awareness Day Oct. 10 hosted by the Sussex Emergency Operations Center in Georgetown. Not only did students go home with lots of handouts and swag, they received information on fire prevention and CPR, and learned what local firefighters, paramedics and Delaware State Police do. The highlight of the day included two demonstrations by the DSP K-9 unit.

Manning the nearly 20 exhibits were representatives from various Delaware State Police units, including the bomb squad and and aviation units, Delaware Department of Transportation, Sussex County Sheriff, Delaware State Fire School, Sussex County EOC, Blades, Dagsboro, Greenwood, Bridgeville and Milton fire departments, Delaware Citizens Corps, Georgetown EMS, Sussex County paramedics, Delaware Health and Social Services, Delaware Victims Center, Natural Resources Police, Delaware Forest Service and the Sussex County and DSP mobile command centers.
