Sussex Strong seeks helpers for shopping and wrapping days

Record-breaking gala results will support children in need during holidays
November 26, 2025

Sussex Strong, the nonprofit community service foundation of the Sussex County Association of Realtors, announced the record-breaking success of its 2025 Annual Gala, held Nov. 6 at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center. The event raised more than $100,000 to support children in need throughout Sussex County this holiday season.

“This community shows up for its kids year after year, and the generosity at this year’s gala was extraordinary,” said Michael Sprouse, SCAOR marketing and communications director. “Every contribution helps ensure that no child goes without warmth or joy during the holidays.”

With the fundraising complete, Sussex Strong now turns its attention to two major volunteer events: Shopping Day and Wrapping Day. These long-standing traditions bring together dozens of community members to transform charitable donations into holiday gifts for local children identified by area schools, agencies and partner organizations.

Shopping Day will start at 9 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 2, at the Rehoboth Beach Walmart. Volunteers will receive a child’s wish list upon arrival and will assist in selecting coats, clothing, shoes, essentials and a special toy. No registration is required, and community members are encouraged to bring a friend.

Wrapping Day will begin at 9 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 9, at the Rusty Rudder in Dewey Beach. Once all items are purchased, volunteers will help wrap, sort and prepare the gifts for delivery. Participants may bring wrapping paper, boxes or tape if available, but all are welcome to attend with or without supplies.

Sussex Strong extends its gratitude to the many volunteers and supporters, and the Rusty Rudder staff for their continued commitment to this large annual effort.

Since its founding, Sussex Strong has raised over $1.7 million and assisted more than 10,000 children across Sussex County. The organization’s mission is to provide warmth, care and holiday support to local families in need. Learn more at SussexStrong.org.
