Sussex Tech field hockey opens season with a W

Sussex Tech field hockey started its 2019 season off Sept. 4 with a crushing 6-0 win over visiting Holly Grove Christian School of Westover, Md.

The Ravens outshot the Eagles 16-1 in the game and held a 6-3 edge in penalty corners.

Jade Powell led the home squad with two goals in the first half for the Ravens. Aynasti Bowden tallied one with a helper from Alyssa Layfield. Madison Short added an unassisted goal and tallied an assist on Powell’s second score.

The Ravens continued the domination in the second half, getting scores from Adrianna Cannon and Tori Adams with assists from Kayla Evans and Powell.

Tech goalkeeper Kayla Brady made one save, while Eagles keeper Abigail Webster stopped nine Ravens scoring attempts.

The Ravens will host 2019 DIAA state champion Delmar Tuesday, Sept. 10. Game time is 4 p.m.
