October 18, 2022

A group of 53 high school seniors, juniors and sophomores will experience the triumphs and challenges of being philanthropists this year through the Delaware Community Foundation’s Youth Philanthropy Boards each each county.

The YPBs include students from public, private and parochial schools. The foundation gives the Kent and Sussex county student boards $10,000 each and the New Castle County student board $15,000 to award to local charities.

Students work together to choose a focus area, solicit and review grant applications, conduct site visits and decide how to distribute the money to have the greatest impact.

This year’s Sussex County Youth Philanthropy Board participants and high schools are:  Martina Ambrosino, senior, Seaford; Mirta Angel-Gabriel, senior, Laurel; Abby Betts, senior, Cape Henlopen; Vicky Chan, senior, Indian River; Daykhi Conquest-Carey, senior, Sussex Central; Claire Eden, junior, Delmarva Christian; Michael Fagundes-Rocha, senior, Sussex Central; Christian Hodges, senior, Delmarva Christian; Taylor Jenkins, senior, Seaford; Chelsea Littleton, junior, Laurel; Hussain Mahdi, senior, Cape Henlopen; McKenna Miller, senior, Indian River High School; Rachel Pogwist, senior, Sussex Tech; Ana Rial, junior, Sussex Academy; Miyah Sow, junior, Sussex Tech; Rudra Soni, senior, Delmar; Ashlyn Toppin, senior, Laurel; Doralynn Ventura-Lopez, senior, Sussex Academy; Johnson Ventura-Lopez, junior, Sussex Academy; Weston Williams, senior, Greenwood Mennonite; Danielle Young, junior, Sussex Tech; and Kathy Zhang, senior, Worcester Prep.
