Tai Chi and Qigong for Health program set Sept. 10
Monthly Second Friday programs will resume in person at 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 10, in the Fellowship Hall at First Presbyterian Church of Milford. The program will also be aired via Zoom for those who prefer to attend from home.
September’s topic will be Tai Chi and Qigong for Health, presented by Silvia Ritchie, an avid student and instructor of both disciplines.
Ritchie’s love for tai chi started with a few play sessions in 2016, and it has become her passion. “The benefits of Qigong/Tai Chi for Health are numerous,” said Ritchie. It has strengthened her back, built stronger muscles and increased her balance. She wants to spread the benefits tai chi and qigong can have for a person’s well-being of body, mind and spirit.
She is a certified teacher for Level I Qigong/Tai Chi from Silver Lotus Training Institute, Tai Chi for Arthritis by Dr. Paul Lam and is currently teaching beginners tai chi at CAMP Rehoboth. She also teaches at The Moorings at Lewes, where her class consists of people who have balance issues, use wheelchairs or are experiencing other age-related challenges.
Ritchie will lead participants in some exercises which can be performed either standing or in a chair. Folks of all ages and abilities are welcome to attend. Light refreshments will follow the program. Social distancing will be observed, and masks are recommended. Ritchie suggests attending in person is preferable if possible. Second Friday is a community program open to all, always family friendly and always free, sponsored by First Presbyterian Church of Milford.
