Tech baseball scores 4-2 comeback win over Cape

Seventh inning seals win for the Ravens
April 16, 2021

The Sussex Tech baseball team hung around to the very end and scored three runs in the seventh inning to knock the 6-1 Vikings from the unbeaten ranks while they remained unblemished on the season at 7-0.

“I thought we played a very good game,” said Cape head coach Ben Evick. “Josh (Reinhold) was extremely good again. We left eight runners in scoring position, which is tough to do against a good team. Tech did a good job of hanging around and gave themselves a chance to win, which they were able to do in the seventh inning. Justin Marsh continued his hot streak at the plate with two more doubles. It was a good baseball game with lots of fans and a great atmosphere. There was a lot of energy in the game, and I feel like it is a great opportunity for us to grow as a team and become better as a result.”

Cape starter Josh Reinhold went six innings with 11 strikeouts and no earned runs. Grant Allen garnered the win in relief for the Ravens.

Justin Marsh delivered with two doubles, going 2-for-3 in the game. Matt Newcomb went 2-for-3 with a two-bagger. Timothy Hitchcock went 1-for-2 with an RBI while Gage Joseph went 1-for-4.

Tech was led by Jonathan Stokley who went 2-for-4 in the game. He delivered a huge double in the seventh inning for the Ravens. Jaryn Sample went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Jason Shockley went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Conor Ellingsworth slammed a double. Alex Adams and Landon Ruark each had a hit.

“It was a great baseball game and a great win for us,” said Ravens coach GL Jefferson. “Cape is a big rivalry for us, and anytime you come to their field and come away with a win, it’s a big boost. We had the top of our lineup coming to the plate in the seventh inning, so I knew we had a chance to pull it off. I’m happy to get this win.”

The Ravens haven’t defeated the Vikings since 2012.

Cape will host Newark Charter Saturday, April 17, while the Ravens host Woodbridge.
