A celebration of life will be held for former Lewes Mayor Ted Becker at 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 26, in Canalfront Park, which he helped create.
The Rev. Jeffrey Ross of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church will officiate. A private interment will take place later this week.
The event is being organized by Joe Stewart, Becker’s partner and chair of the Greater Lewes Foundation, and Mike Rawl, executive director of the Greater Lewes Foundation. Becker was a member of the GFL board of directors.
Becker, 75, died Oct. 6. He served as mayor from 2014 to 2022.
Mayor Andrew Williams remembered Becker at the Oct. 14 mayor and city council meeting.
“[Ted] leaves a lasting legacy of service here in the city, his businesses, and those that he touched as friends and residents every day. He cared deeply about the City of Lewes, and he’ll be missed,” Williams said.
The Lewes city crest in council chambers is now adorned with a black ribbon in Becker’s memory.
Tom Panetta, Lewes Board of Public Works president, told council he had known Becker since 2001.
“He was influential throughout the state. He will be a major resource that is missed throughout the region,” Panetta said.
Panetta announced BPW has canceled its fall hazardous waste and electronics collection day that was scheduled for Oct. 26, due to the Becker memorial.
He said it will be rescheduled for the spring.
