A perfect weather day served as the backdrop to the third annual Milton New Music and Wind Festival May 31 on Federal Street.
The festival is a collaborative effort between the Federal Street Arts Project and Milton Arts Guild, showcasing artwork and musical acts. Children are also encouraged to fly a kite at the Federal Street field next to the stage area.
Among the acts that took the stage were the Messthetics, who played a blend of jazz and punk rock, which shouldn’t come as a surprise, as bassist Joe Lally and drummer Brendan Canty were members of the seminal Washington, D.C. punk rock band Fugazi. They formed the Messthetics in 2016 with guitarist and singer Anthony Pirog.
The lineup also included a set by Bob Boilen, former host of National Public Radio’s “All Things Considered” and co-creator of the station’s popular Tiny Desk Concert series. Other performances were by Luke Stewart’s Silt Trio, Ensemble Vocal Ash and Terry Riley, performing his piece “In C” in full.
