Thompson named Cape boys’ basketball coach

June 13, 2019

Shemik Thompson, a 2007 graduate of Cape Henlopen High School, has been named the Vikings’ new boys’ basketball coach.

Thompson was approved by the school board at its June 13 meeting. The school board had previously approved another person to fill the coaching vacancy, but the finer details couldn’t be ironed out.

He is currently a practicing attorney with The Partners Group in Charlotte, N.C. Prior to moving to Charlotte to pursue a law degree in 2016, Thompson spent time as Cape’s freshman boys’ basketball coach from 2011 to 2014 and also played semi-pro basketball in Bucharest, Romania.

“We are excited to welcome coach Thompson to the Cape family,” said Bob Fulton, superintendent. “He comes to Cape with a wealth of knowledge about the game of basketball, and an incredible desire to make a positive impact on the students at Cape both on and off the court.”

“I’m beyond excited to fill this role as head coach for the Vikings and to be back in the community that made me the player and person I am today,” said Thompson. “Cape’s basketball community and its history is grounded in a certain level of toughness and respect only to be commanded on the court.”
