Tower Beach FC wrapped up its high school and adult summer seasons July 24 at Cape.
Cape’s returning varsity players, donning Carolina Blue, slipped past an improving Woodbridge team 3-2 in the opening game at Legends Stadium. Cape’s second team squared up against the combined squad of Delmarva Christian and Sussex Tech players, winning 3-0 and showing there might be some difficult decisions ahead for Cape coach Patrick Kilby, but usually those are good problems for a coach.
On the adult side, the Red team, who was in first place all season, was undone by a Black squad that featured two-time state champions Andres Romero-Nieto, Esteban Lara Nieto and Alek Danilenko. The trio helped the underdogs secure the summer league title by dispatching the Grey squad in the semifinals and the leaders of the table in the championship.
With the summer season in the rear-view mirror, the high school kids’ next action will come against one another in training camp, which starts Monday, Aug. 11. The adults will next lace up on Sundays in January and February for futsal in the Cape gym.
