Toys for Tots honors departing local coordinator Bob Davis
Nassau-DE LCO, the local campaign organization of the national Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, gathered at the Ocean Grill in Long Neck May 18 to pay tribute to departing Coordinator Bob Davis.
Davis oversaw the 2019 and COVID-plagued 2020 Toys for Tots campaigns in Sussex County. He was honored for his leadership in organizing southern Delaware’s monumental volunteer effort required to carry out the Marine Corps program of ensuring that children in need are not overlooked at Christmas.
Davis received a certificate of appreciation and one of Nassau DE’s signature red train awards. The ceremony was attended by local Toys for Tots volunteers, many of whom are also members of Marine Corps League Diamond State Detachment 704, a major supporter of Nassau-DE LCO.
In 2020, under Davis’s direction, Nassau-DE LCO provided toys to more than 3,700 kids in southern Delaware.
Ceremony guests said they believe that, with continuing support from local residents, the local organization is up to the task of carrying on the tremendous success achieved during Davis’s tenure.
Making Toys for Tots successful is a year-round undertaking. Even now, plans are being made for the 2021 Christmas season. Newly appointed Coordinator Jim DeMartino is hitting the ground running to ensure Nassau-DE LCO keeps its efforts growing in its 22nd year of partnering with the Marine Corps Reserve in Sussex County.
