Traffic directions issued for Rehoboth Christmas parade Dec. 3

November 27, 2019

The Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company will host this year’s Rehoboth Beach Hometown Christmas Parade and Cookies with Santa event at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 3. For more information and registration forms, go to

This year’s parade is being presented by the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company with the support of the City of Rehoboth Beach and Rehoboth Beach-Dewey Beach Chamber of Commerce.

Parade participants will line up on the north side of town using Fifth Street, Henlopen Avenue and Columbia Avenue, with some groups also lining up on Sussex Street. Drivers are asked to watch for parking and travel restrictions on the day of the parade.

People participating in the parade will be directed toward the left lane as they come in on Rehoboth Avenue; they will be directed around the circle and onto Henlopen Avenue toward their lineup stakes.

Those coming to watch the parade should move to the right lane as they come in on Rehoboth Avenue and then go straight up Rehoboth Avenue from the traffic circle; drivers can also come into Rehoboth Avenue from State Road or Bayard Avenue from Coastal Highway. The convention center parking lot will be open during the parade and for Santa’s Christmas party.

Rehoboth Avenue will be closed from the traffic circle to the Bandstand during the parade and as organizers get ready to start. Based on traffic, Rehoboth police will determine the exact time to close between 5:45 and 6:15 p.m.

Parade marchers and watchers are reminded that there is construction on the Coastal Highway canal bridge; everyone should allow travel time for any congestion from the construction or parade lineup.

Residents, guests, visitors and family home for the holidays can all come together to enjoy the parade, island lights, the Christmas tree and, of course, the arrival of Santa Claus himself.

Santa Claus will be hosting his Christmas Party in the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center after the parade this year with refreshments and a gift for all children.
