A traffic signal will be installed at the intersection of Route 16 and Mulberry Street this summer.
The news comes days after a fatal crash involving a paramedic that resulted in the death of a 74-year-old Ellendale woman June 6.
Delaware Department of Transportation spokesman Charles “C.R.” McLeod said additional utility relocation work delayed the project. Much of the infrastructure has been in place since last summer.
“That work has been completed, so work will be resuming to add a traffic signal and pedestrian crossing at this intersection this summer,” he said.
The intersection has become dangerous. In May, a crash involving a DART bus sent eight people to the hospital. Another fatal crash occurred at the intersection in July 2022, killing a 20-year-old Woodbridge, Va. woman.
