The University of Delaware Cooperative Extension, in partnership with Penn State Extension and Cypress Tree Care, will offer the Delaware Tree Climbing School from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 1, to Thursday, April 3, at Baywood Greens, Long Neck.
During this three-day, in-person course, participants will learn the fundamentals of tree maintenance and how to safely climb trees.
Lead instructor Dr. James Savage is assistant professor of arboriculture in the Department of Plant Sciences at Penn State University.
This course is for arborists, landscapers, new or inexperienced climbers and anyone looking for an adventure.
The school will include classroom and fieldwork covering safety/safe climbing practices, equipment and use of hand tools, and tree terminology.
Students will obtain a satisfactory, basic understanding, knowledge and skill set required for tree maintenance and tree climbing. The course lays the foundation for participants to become accomplished climbers. A majority of time will be spent on tree climbing.
“Safety is nonnegotiable. This course provides a crucial foundation for arbor and tree-related careers and services, and attendees earn valuable ISA credits,” said Blake Moore, UD Extension agent, natural resources.
