Troop 1 Lewes honors scouts’ achievements at court of honor

June 18, 2025

In a spirited gathering of families, leaders and community supporters, Troop 1 of Lewes celebrated the hard work, dedication and achievements of its scouts during the June court of honor.

Recognition patches were presented to scouts who participated in camping weekends this season at Cape Henlopen, Resica Falls and Janes Island. These outings not only offered opportunities for outdoor adventure and skill-building, but also contributed to the troop’s impressive total of 60 hiking miles accumulated over recent months.

Additional recognition was given to Troop 1 scouts who attended the Order of the Arrow conclave and the OA summer weekend, marking their active involvement in scouting’s national honor society and their continued leadership within the broader scouting community.

The ceremony also highlighted the challenges of winter camping, as multiple levels of Frostbite Awards were distributed to scouts who endured cold-weather conditions with grit and resilience. These awards are given based on the number of nights spent camping in below-freezing temperatures — a tradition that continues to build character and camaraderie among troop members.

Notably, 12 scouts achieved rank advancements, and 13 merit badges were awarded in areas ranging from outdoor skills to personal development, reflecting the troop’s commitment to growth, learning and leadership.

The court of honor concluded with the presentation of several special honors including a number of National Outdoor Achievement Awards, a significant recognition of scouts who have demonstrated excellence in areas such as camping, hiking and conservation.

As Troop 1 members prepare for exciting times at summer camp in Rhode Island, the court of honor served as a powerful reminder of the spirit, perseverance and achievement that defines this dedicated group of young leaders.
