UD Cooperative Extension offers worksite wellness program
University of Delaware Cooperative Extension announced Delaware Fit Biz, a worksite wellness program with a menu of health behavior change strategies designed to create a culture of health within Delaware workplaces.
Through the implementation of policy, systems and environmental changes, supported by technical assistance, marketing and coordinated educational programming, Delaware Fit Biz will ensure that the healthiest choice is the easiest choice for a business’s employees.
Interested sites will submit an interest form, and a Cooperative Extension agent will follow up to discuss program requirements and payment. The program costs $50 per worksite; however, financial scholarships are available for worksites that qualify. Fit Biz offers a learning collaborative model where worksites can learn strategy recommendations from the University of Delaware Cooperative Extension and learn from other worksites that are working to implement changes. The program comprises six virtual sessions covering various topics related to creating healthier workplaces. Interested worksites may also be eligible for an on-site technical assistance visit from the University of Delaware Cooperative Extension.
Session topics are as follows: Overview of Delaware Fit Biz program, worksite wellness committees, healthy and productive meetings; dining and menu guidelines for worksite cafés and healthy vending; worksite farmers markets, community-supported agriculture programs and worksite community gardens; hydration and physical activity clubs; breastfeeding-friendly worksites; and alcohol, tobacco and drug prevention and stress reduction.
Financial scholarships are available. Upon receipt of the interest form at udel.edu, a Cooperative Extension agent will follow up to learn more about a particular worksite to determine eligibility for a scholarship.
