UNICO Rehoboth Area celebrates active year

UNICO Rehoboth Area has announced attorney Richard A. DiLiberto Jr. will be honored at the UNICO National convention with the Phillip Mazzei Award.

The award is bestowed annually on an individual who carries the torch of freedom so it will always remain in Americans’ hearts: enhancing the interest of fellow men in public affairs, rendering patriotic service to the community, demonstrating interest in historical facts and contributions made by founding fathers, protecting and advocating high cultural standards, and believing in the rights of liberty and happiness as gifts of God.

UNICO Rehoboth Area can count many accomplishments for the 2022-23 year ending June 30. Donations bolstered charities including the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Edmond Church, Womenade, Lighthouse for Broken Wings, Brian Piccolo Scholarship, Cooley’s Anemia, Cancer Research and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Events in support of Italian culture included a bocce tournament, Carnivale, Italian movie nights and celebrations for Italian Heritage Month.

In March 2023, Dr. Victor Basili received the Marconi Award, established in 1955 to honor scientists who exemplify Guglielmo Marconi’s vast scientific and creative accomplishments in their personal career achievements. Basili is the second member of UNICO Rehoboth Area to receive this honor, following Joseph Mule’s 2010 accolade.
