Cape Henlopen School District Superintendent Dr. Jenny Nauman hosted a special event, Unified for Students: A Community Leaders Reception, following the unified basketball game against Woodbridge Feb. 5 at Cape High. The event brought students, staff, families and community leaders together to celebrate inclusion, teamwork and student leadership.
The event highlighted the power of unified sports at Cape, a program that brings students of all abilities together to compete as teammates and demonstrate what is possible when schools and communities work as partners. The game showcased not only athletic skills, but also sportsmanship, belonging and the strong relationships that define the Cape Henlopen School District. The Cape Henlopen High School Unified Choir kicked off the game with the national anthem, showing that inclusion is happening across all Cape programs, not just on the court or on the field.
“I truly believe that our unified programs reflect the very best of who we are as a district,” said Nauman. “It’s events like this that remind us of the power of inclusion and what is possible when we all work together to ensure every student feels a sense of belonging.”
Following the game, guests gathered for a reception with unified team members, district leaders and community partners. Hors d’oeuvres were prepared and served by Cape High culinary arts students, who proudly showcased their skills while contributing to the evening’s success.
The unified basketball game served as a powerful reminder of the impact inclusive programs have on students and school culture. “We are grateful to everyone who joined us for this event and showed their support for our students,” said Nauman. “The presence of our families, community leaders and partners sends a clear message to our students that they are valued, supported and celebrated.”
