Cape swim teams picked up where they left off last season, earning a 106-38 boys’ win and a 115-39 girls’ victory over Lake Forest Dec. 8 in Felton.
The boys’ team took first place in every event, while the girls took first in 10 of 11 events.
“It was a great first meet,” said Cape coach Bill Geppert. “We are pleased with the progress we have made during the preseason. There were a few disqualifications that give us some corrections to focus on this week at practice. Our mission is to keep improving in every way – just keep getting better. The kids are working on finding their niche in our lineup. They know that roster spots are earned in the fairest way possible as we move through the season. It creates a great team atmosphere with no hidden agendas.”
Junior Brady Schell won the 50 free, 100 butterfly and was part of the winning 200 free and 200 medley relays.
“It was a great first meet with some very good competition,” said Schell. “The first meet always gives us a good look on our strengths and weaknesses. It’s great to have a baseline and gives us specifics to focus on in practice. Our team came out strong and stayed focused to pull out the win.”
Senior Sidney Caldwell won the 100 backstroke and was part of the winning 200 free and 200 medley relays.
“It was definitely a great first meet for us,” said Caldwell. “A lot of our new swimmers did a great job and stepped up to the plate to get us to where we needed to be. I think we will continue to bring that hard work and energy for the rest of the season.”
The Vikings will face an always-tough Indian River team Friday, Dec. 12, at the Sussex Family YMCA in Rehoboth Beach.
