Virginia C. Henderson, former church secretary

Virginia C. Henderson, 90, of Millsboro, passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2017, surrounded by her loving family at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes. Virginia was born in Alderson, W.Va., May 23, 1927, daughter of the late Clarence Mason Keeney and Maude Beard (Feamster) Keeney.

Mrs. Henderson served as the church secretary throughout her husband, the Rev. Gerald Henderson's, charges in the United Methodist Church Conference. While in Delaware, they served Methodist churches in Cannon, Laurel, Millsboro and Newport.

She enjoyed sewing, painting, needlepoint, quilting, bowling and spending time with her family. Virginia was also a member of the Grace United Methodist Church Choir in Millsboro. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.

In addition to her parents and several siblings, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, the Rev. Gerald M. Henderson, in 1984. She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn H. Nelson and her husband, Nels P. Nelson III of Millsboro, and Patricia H. Johnson and her companion, Edward Pilling of Georgetown. Virginia is also survived by three grandchildren, Lindsay Bertelli of Nashville, Tenn., Adam Johnson and his wife, Karrie of Baltimore, Md., and Geri Dickerson and her husband Jordan of Georgetown; two great-grandchildren, Riley Morgan Bertelli and Grady Dickerson; and a sister, Wanda Hinkley of Alderson, W.Va.

A funeral service will be held at noon, Monday, June 19, at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Road, Millsboro, where friends and family may call after 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Carey's Cemetery in Millsboro.
