Volunteers brighten Delaware Humane adoption center

March 3, 2019

The Delaware Humane Association adoption center in Rehoboth has a new look created by volunteers and Bohler Engineering, which donated the time and talent of its service group. A new pop of color brightens the large room where dogs live, play, learn and meet their new families.

In recent weeks, DHA has initiated several new programs to enhance the dogs’ lives while they live at the adoption center. New padded mats provide comfort for the larger dogs and aroma diffusers in all the rooms help reduce stress. Volunteers are being trained to provide carefully supervised play groups, and to teach the dogs basic commands. In addition to providing mental stimulation for the animals and enhancing their socialization skills, good behavior commands such as sit, down and stay teach qualities helpful to the adopting families.

DHA welcomes all volunteers who support its mission, Making Friends for Life, and who will help with animal care, adoptions, transport and fostering. For more information, go to www.delawarehumane.org and indicate an interest in volunteering at the Rehoboth center.

DHA Rehoboth is located in Midway Plaza and is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday and Sunday; and 12 to 6 p.m., Monday to Wednesday, and Friday. The center is closed on Thursdays.
