Walk, run, splash or plunge into 2019 in Bethany Beach Jan. 1

December 4, 2018

The Quiet Resorts Charitable Foundation and the Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce  are again partnering to host family friendly events on New Year’s Day 2019: the 8th Annual Hair of the Dog 5K/10K Run and the 23rd Annual Leo Brady Exercise Like the Eskimos. Proceeds go toward scholarships for local students.

The 10K and 5K will start off the day, with each race beginning on Parkwood and Atlantic avenues in downtown Bethany Beach and ending at the Bandstand on the boardwalk. The 10K starts at 8:45 a.m. and the 5K starts at 10 a.m. All runners are invited to join the post-race party at Mango’s Bethany Beach, to enjoy chili provided by local restaurants.

The Leo Brady Exercise Like the Eskimo Plunge will take place at noon, followed by a post-party at The Cottage Café with DJ Bump. The celebration will include an awards ceremony recognizing the largest team, the best costume/theme and the team that raises the most pledges for the Captain William Murray Scholarship. Murray was an active community member who was integral in starting the New Year’s plunge event. The scholarship is awarded annually to a student with strong academics and an equally strong passion for community service. Those who don’t want to plunge alone may sign up with a team or join the Cottage Café Team when registering.
