The first test launch of the Antares rocket from NASA Goddard Space Flight Center's Wallops Flight Facility took place at 5 p.m., Sunday, April 21 after Saturday's attempt was cancelled due to upper wind conditions.

"Today's successful test marks another significant milestone in NASA's plan to rely on American companies to launch supplies and astronauts to the International Space Station, bringing this important work back to the United States where it belongs," said NASA Administrator Charles Bolden.

The liftoff is part of a program in which private companies deliver supplies to the International Space Station. This will mark the first orbital launch of a liquid-fueled rocket from Wallops.

Residents living anywhere along a wide area of the East Coast had a great opportunity to witness the event.

Cape Gazette invites readers to submit photos of the launch to photos@capegazette.com. Readers may also email us a YouTube link to their launch videos.

Only submissions that include location in the caption and first and last name for the photo credit will be considered for sharing in this post.
