Warren Mustard Walls, veteran, Sea Siding founder
Warren Mustard Walls, 86, went to be with the Lord Sunday, June 1, 2025. Warren was a cherished member of the Lewes community, known for his work ethic, kindness, and dedication.
Warren was born on Lewes Beach in a family cottage in January 1939 to Clarence and Margaret Walls, who preceded him in death. He is also preceded in death by his grandson, Jonathan Warren Walraven. Warren was a devoted husband to his late wife, Mary S. Walls, who passed away in 2021. He was a loving father to his three children, Cathy Walls, Cindy Plummer (husband Bruce), and Jonathan Walls (wife Tonya), and a dear friend to many. His family includes his beloved grandchildren, Joy Lewis (husband John), Brian Plummer (wife Dana), Brooke Plummer, Josh Walls (wife Jonah), Karley Walls and Laura Walls. He is also blessed with six great-grandchildren, Lily Lewis, Bryce and Blake Plummer, Adelynn, Wesley, and Adam Walls; and two siblings, Virginia Lewis and Bud Walls.
He grew up on Lewes Beach and helped his grandparents, John and Hettie Warren, who rented rowboats and supported the local fishing industry. Warren’s grandfather served in the U.S. Coast Guard, and as a teenager, Warren assisted him with beach cart drills, tying knots that no one else could, and helping bring people ashore. Warren followed in his grandfather’s footsteps by enlisting in the U.S. Coast Guard after graduating from Lewes High School in 1957. He honorably served, completing four years of active duty followed by 18 years in the Reserves. His military career included service at Lewes Boat Station, Indian River, Cape May, and the 14-Foot Bank Lighthouse, where he was stationed. He represented Delaware at the relighting of the Statue of Liberty in 1986 and volunteered to serve as a small arms instructor during Operation Desert Storm. He obtained the rank of chief BMC and received numerous commendations, including the U.S. Coast Guard Good Conduct Award and Outstanding Coast Guard Enlisted Reservist of the Year.
Warren built a successful career as the sole proprietor of Sea Siding, a home improvement contractor, where he worked on numerous homes in Sussex County. Over time, his commitment to craftsmanship and family values led to the business evolving into Sea Siding and Son when his son, Jonathan, joined him. Later, as the family continued to grow, the name changed yet again to Sea Siding and Grandson.
Warren was deeply involved in his church community. He served in the Bus Ministry, AWANA, and was a deacon at First Baptist Church in Lewes. Later in life, he became a deacon at Calvary Baptist Church in Georgetown. For the last few years, he attended First Baptist Church in Milford with Bruce and Cindy, where he continued to share his faith and dedication. He began most mornings in quiet devotion, reading his Bible and spending time in prayer. He prayed for those he loved, including missionaries, pastors, and others serving in the ministry around the world.
Warren's love for woodworking, gardening, target shooting, hunting, and boating was evident in everything he did. Above all, his family was the most important aspect of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them. He continued the tradition his wife had started 37 years ago of preparing family dinner every Monday night for eight to 14 people, which brought the family together week after week. His legacy will live on through the many lives he touched. He found great joy in the simple pleasures of life, especially sharing coffee and conversation with friends during regular visits to McDonald’s and Arby’s. These gatherings were a cherished part of his routine, filled with laughter, stories, and companionship.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, June 9, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Hwy., Lewes, where a viewing will begin at 10:30 a.m. A viewing will also be held from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, June 8, at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow the funeral services at Delaware Veterans Cemetery, Millsboro.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the mission’s program of a local church.
We will forever remember Warren's warmth, generosity, and the joy he brought into our lives. We know that he is in heaven with Mom. The Walls Family.
