Watermelon queens hand out tasty treats

Five regional and the national watermelon queens made their yearly appearance on the Boardwalk to hand out free slices of the healthy fruit. National and regional watermelon queens, in partnership with the Mar-Del Watermelon Association and the Delaware Department of Agriculture, handed out free slices of watermelon on the Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk and at Giant Foods Aug. 5.
After handing out hundreds of slices of the tasty fruit, the queens made their way to Giant Foods at 19312 Lighthouse Plaza and handed out free watermelon slices, judged a watermelon carving contest and helped to officiate a watermelon eating contest.
