Wayne Earl Boyer, TV station video editor

Wayne Earl Boyer, 98, passed away in his home in Rehoboth Beach Sunday evening, May 14, 2023. He fought hard to battle the effects of pneumonia over the last four months of his life, but in the end it took him away peacefully in his sleep. He was born April 10, 1927, on a farm in Shartlesville, Pa., (Reading area) in Berks County, son of the late William and Marian (Dundore) Boyer.

Wayne graduated from Muhlenberg High School in Laureldale, Pa., in 1945. He was a Boy Scout, and liked fishing, hunting and trapping when he was young. Wayne was also very good at roller skating. He later lived in the Fleetwood Temple area. Wayne’s first job out of high school was with Uncle Sam, when he enlisted in the Army and was an MP stationed in the Philippines after World War II. There were still some Japanese holdouts in the mountains when he was there.

When Wayne got home from his military service, he worked for a local TV station in Reading, Pa., for a year and then took a job in Philadelphia at WRCV-TV as a film photographer. Wayne took the train back and forth from Reading to Philadelphia for two years. He would later work for KYW-TV in Philadelphia for 37 years as a photographer and video editor, and on the Mike Douglas TV Show.

Wayne and his family moved to Springfield, Delaware County, Pa., in 1955, where they lived for 39 years. They had a summer home on the Indian River near Rehoboth Beach as well. Later in life, they liked to follow the sun, heading for Naples, Fla., before the winter snow hit and then returning to Rehoboth Beach every spring.

Wayne married Mary Orlando of Milmont, Pa., (Reading area) in 1949. They were married for 71 years, until she passed at age 93. They had three children: Maryellen Boyer Coombe (John Coombe), William Boyer (Patricia Toner Boyer), and Barbara Boyer (formerly Seefeldt). He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Brian Coombe, William John Coombe, Briana Seefeldt, James Seefeldt Jr., Ellen Boyer, Mary Boyer and Wayne Seefeldt; as well as two great-grandchildren.

There will be a Celebration of Life with Wayne's family in the near future. Wayne and Mary’s ashes will be scattered across the United States together, per their wishes, at a later time.
