Weekend meditation set March 6, 7 in Lewes

Insight Meditation Community of Lewes will present returning meditation teacher Larissa Kitenko for an evening Dharma talk and daylong meditation retreat on the 2015 topic Ten Wholesome Qualities: The Paramis. Non, beginning and experienced meditators are all invited to attend this weekend of learning to live in the present moment.

The Dharma talk of Buddhist teachings will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Friday, March 6, at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church Parish Hall. The talk is followed by discussion and refreshments. The meditation retreat will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, March 7, at the Lewes Senior Center Banquet Hall, and will include sitting and walking meditation with some brief discussion.

Kitenko is a longtime practitioner of insight meditation, studying and practicing Buddhism in the Theravadan tradition. She has completed the Community Dharma Leader-4 Program and the Dedicated Practitioner Program at Spirit Rock Meditation Center in California and is an affiliate teacher at IMC-Washington, D.C., led by Tara Brach, Ph.D.

She has trained with Jon Kabat-Zinn and has been teaching Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction since 2005. She is certified as an associate clinical chaplain at Shore Health System in Easton, Md. She also leads the Easton Meditation Sangha, teaches at the Salisbury Buddhist Community, and leads workshops and retreats all throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.

The suggested donation or dana for Friday’s talk is $10, and $45 for the Saturday retreat which includes lunch. For those with limited income, 50 percent or any amount of the suggested donation offered is welcome. If budget does not allow for a donation, simply show up and no explanation is needed.

St. Peter's Episcopal Parish Hall is at 211 Mulberry St. in Lewes. The Lewes Senior Center is near the Nassau bridge just outside Lewes.
