I was very pleased to read about the preservation of the land trust in West Rehoboth. West Rehoboth is truly a neighborhood, yet one that is disappearing. This disappearance is not because new people are moving in – that is always true in neighborhoods. They are vibrant, changing communities. Instead, it is the construction of houses that are not intended as homes, but as rental properties. They’re not for people to live in, as again that would add to the fabric of the neighborhood, but as commercial properties for vacation rentals. The neighborhood has had no voice that I am aware of about these properties. The latest one had the for-rent sign up before it was finished being built! Clearly not intended as a home but as a house for making money that only takes away from the neighborhood.
