Wharton’s Garden Center outside Rehoboth Beach has announced it is closing at the end of the month.
There has been a landscaping and garden center at the corner of Airport and Old Landing roads since Bob and Mindy Martin opened Martin’s Garden Center in 1988.
Beginning in 2010, the site was home to Hooked on Plants for a period. Then, in 2016, Wharton's Landscaping took over.
According to Sussex County property records, the two lots that make up the garden center, 35557 Airport Road, and landscaping design company, 19385 Old Landing Road, were sold to a company named Ashton Properties LLC in late October for $1.7 million.
The company’s website says the landscaping division is open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, while customers are encouraged to call the garden center for current hours. For more information, go to whartonsde.com or email info@whartonde.com. The landscaping office can be reached directly at 302-227-0913. The garden center can be reached at 302-278-7041.
