What's up with the 76ers?

December 17, 2021

Last Saturday, the Philadelphia 76ers came back to beat the best team in the NBA right now, the Golden State Warriors. They accomplished this after being down by 13 points in the third quarter! I thought this was an impressive victory and that it would provide some momentum to the team, but for some reason this has not been the case. They have proceeded to lose their next three games to Memphis, a shorthanded Miami team and Brooklyn. The Eastern Conference is very tight this year, so unless they make a big trade for an impact player to help support Joel Embiid, they will not be in contention for a championship this year ... again! They will probably make the playoffs, but not get much further than that. Can you tell that I am perplexed?

The Philadelphia Eagles have a very unique schedule. They finish out the season this year with four games all against division opponents. I don’t remember this ever happening before. This week’s game is against the Washington Football team, who are quite capable of beating anybody in the NFL on any given Sunday, and just as capable of looking terrible. The big decision for the Eagles this week is who will be the starting quarterback between Jalen Hurts and Gardner Minshew? I’ve heard that Jalen has a high ankle sprain, which supposedly is quite difficult to play with. I think it’s going to be a game-time decision like last week. If the Eagles can win three of the last four games, they will finish with a 9-8 record. If so, they have a legitimate chance to make the playoffs because there are five or six teams currently with 6-7 records along with the Eagles. We will see what happens.

Happy Holidays to all.
