Why you should vote for my dad

May 6, 2022

I am writing to shed some light on why my father, Ric Moore, is the mayor that the City of Lewes needs, now more than ever. From my earliest memories, Dad has lived by concrete, well-defined principles – which he has not wavered on in my nearly 27 years on this earth – particularly with respect to environmental stewardship. He always made a point to emphasize the importance of preserving our earth, and respecting both the human and the animal life within it. Having worked in the Department of Energy for decades, he had a firsthand account of the damage we were inflicting upon it. So one of his biggest assets is his commitment to ensuring the delicate, but bountiful, ecosystem within and around Lewes is protected from parties that seek to further decimate it – to the detriment of all who call it home.

Dad is also a kind, considerate and humble person, somebody with a near-boundless capacity for curiosity, who taught me that the relentless pursuit of knowledge is one of the most important aspects of life. My love of reading, across all topics and genres, was directly inspired by his proclivities. In fact, he has a book collection, now totaling somewhere in the thousands, which growing up, greatly enriched my own pursuit of knowledge. Dad also taught me to question everything, and to maintain an open mind with each and every situation life throws my way. Our intellectual conversations – sometimes extending for hours on end – have not only given me a great deal to think about over the years, they have shaped me as a person, and I hope to one day carry on that cherished tradition with my own children.

As someone who loves Lewes, I believe my father’s vision for its future is precisely what the town needs for long-term sustainability. Rapid development of the marsh and wetlands has harmed and will continue to destroy the environmental balance. If we want to make Lewes a thriving and livable space for our future children and grandchildren, then urgent action must be taken now, not later. Given my dad’s wealth of knowledge and life experience, there is nobody better prepared to ensure that task. Additionally, his dedication to transparent and inclusive governance for all who call Lewes home is a breath of fresh air in the current political climate. Every resident should have a voice in determining the town’s fate, and I know from years of experience as his son that he will bring each and every person into the fold.

Please consider voting for Ric Moore for mayor, for he is truly a man who will help all of us usher in a bright future for the City of Lewes. Thank you.
