Wildlife rehabilitators set baby squirrel care training Aug. 26
The Delaware Council of Wildlife Rehabilitators and Educators will present a training session on caring for baby squirrels from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 26, at the Delaware Department of Education, John Collette Building, 35 Commerce Way, Dover.
Participants will learn about the basic habitats of a squirrel in the wild, how to identify if a baby squirrel has been injured or abandoned, how to care for a baby squirrel the first 24 hours and beyond, and when and how to release the squirrel when it is ready to go back into the wild.
The council, a nonprofit organization, is seeking volunteers to become licensed wildlife rehabbers in Delaware. The council can help with the licensing process.
“We have so many developments going up, our wildlife is losing their habitat. We cannot keep up with wildlife calls. We need more rehabbers,” said Tonyea Mead, DCWRE president-elect and rehabber.
