Wings & Wheels event roars back Oct. 2 at Georgetown airport

Wings & Wheels is set to hit the skies from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 2, at Delaware Coastal Airport in Georgetown with a combination of military aircraft, classic car show, World War II re-enactors encampment, U.S. Naval Academy Parachute Team, J & J Helair helicopter rides, and the new addition of the Delaware Air National Guard with their C 130 aircraft and a Black Hawk helicopter. The event will also include live music, and food, craft and informational booths.

Opening ceremonies take place at 10 a.m. featuring the Sussex Central JROTC Color Guard and the national anthem sung by Sgt. Matt Barlow of the Georgetown Police Department.

The day will feature multiple jumps by the Naval Academy parachute team starting at 10 a.m., a pilots’ flour-bombing competition at 2 p.m., and live music by Stayin Frosty from noon until 4 p.m.

The Historical Vintage Car Club of Delaware has prepared to put on a great car show event, and First State Skate will be on hand for skateboard demonstrations, along with the Georgetown Boys & Girls Club doing face painting and Halloween crafts for the kids.

Parking is $5 per vehicle at three parking areas on Railroad Avenue; there will be no parking at Sussex Academy, and roads leading to the airport will be closed at 9 a.m. This is a family-friendly event sponsored jointly by the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce, Delaware Aviation Museum Foundation and the Historical Vintage Car Club of Delaware.
